Overview

This programme provides participants with an in-depth understanding of climate change concepts, principles, and risk management issues as they pertain to financial institutions.
Through interactive sessions and case studies, learners will explore the implications of climate change on organizations and clients, discover avenues for financial institutions to facilitate climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts, and familiarize themselves with various climate reporting frameworks and guidelines.

    • Unit 2: Overview of climate change and its global impacts
    • Unit 3: International agreements & frameworks on climate change
      • Global & National Net Zero Commitment
      • Implications of international agreements for financial institutions

    Activities: Understanding the role of financial institutions in addressing climate change
  • Part 2: Climate Risk & Implication (2 hours)
    • Unit 4: Introduction to Climate Risk & its transmission channel
    • Unit 5: Climate change risk & opportunities to financial institution
    • Unit 6: Regulatory requirements related to climate riskmanagement
    • Unit 7: Climate Disclosure & Reporting

  • Assessment – 10 Multiple Choice Questions (0.5 hours)

About IBF Standards Training Scheme (IBF-STS)
This course is eligible for funding under the IBF Standards Training Scheme (IBF-STS), subject to all eligibility criteria being met.
 
Participants are advised to assess the suitability of the course and its relevance to his/her business activities or job roles.

The IBF-STS is available to eligible entities and individuals based on the prevalent funding eligibility, quantum and caps. IBF-STS provides up to 70% course fee subsidy support for direct training costs subject to a cap of S$3,000 per candidate per course subject to all eligibility criteria being met.

This course addresses the following Technical Skills and Competencies (TSCs) and proficiency level:

  • Climate Change Management (Proficiency Level 3)
Participants are encouraged to access the IBF MySkills Portfolio (https://www.ibf.org.sg/home/for-individuals/resource-tools/myskills-portfolio) to track their training progress and skills acquisition against the Skills Framework for Financial Services. You can apply for IBF Certification after fulfilling the required number of Technical Skills and Competencies (TSCs) for the selected job role.

Sharon Liew Siu Wei
Senior Consultant, Asian Banking School
Sharon Liew is a Senior Consultant at the Asian Banking School (ABS) and has more than 17 years of banking and training experience. She started her career as a Senior Associate at BDO; leading audits of the government-linked group of companies under the Prime Minister’s Office from 2005-2007. Following that, she joined Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) as Financial Supervisor where her responsibilities included on-site and off-site surveillance of financial institutions in Malaysia. Pursuing her passion for teaching, Sharon then went on to teach banking and finance at the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College from 2014 to 2021.

At ABS, Sharon develops and delivers customised Sustainable Finance programmes for clients including designing Sustainable Finance Structured Learning Pathways. Currently, Sharon is working on expanding partnerships with government agencies to enhance the scope of training offerings to the banking and non-banking industry. She is also involved in conducting Qualification-related training.

Sharon conducts training in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Cantonese and has a teaching permit registered under the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant registered under the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and is a Certified HRDF Trainer. Sharon has a Bachelor of Accounting from the University Putra Malaysia and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching from the Open University Malaysia. She also holds a Professional Certificate in Islamic Finance from INCEIF, Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the London Teacher Training College and is a Certified Teacher in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (CTCSOL) from Hanban. She is a Certified Expert in Sustainable Finance awarded by the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, Germany.
